Based on the original lore of champions of Targon

Worldbuilding, Mount Targon

The planet Runeterra is brimming with magic both in landscapes and within living organisms. Humans of Runeterra honed their skills as mages and used magic in their petty wars, more and more until their powers became so great that they started erasing entire settlements, permanently altering the face of the planet and causing most of recorded history to be lost. These conflicts happened in periods, each one getting worse than the last, eventually becoming known as the Rune Wars. Entire civilisations were wiped out and at one point it became clear that the next Rune War might split the planet in two.

Among human groups of Runeterra, there was one which calls themselves the Rakkor. Their people were almost never gifted in magic, and were therefore at great risk of being crushed by stronger factions. Constant migrations and lack of recorded history resulted in most technological and magical advancements to stagnate, and they were left to rely only on the magic-imbued tools and weapons of their ancestors, which they now call Relic Weapons. These are their only defense against naturally gifted mages. As a small group, they isolated themselves on Mount Targon - the highest point on Runeterra, living constantly in fear and developing a strict tradition that accepted only the strongest survivors. But they were far from the only people seeking refuge…

A mass migration happened out of an area on Valoran continent now known as Tempest Flats, after Rune bombs turned this land inhospitable. Permanent storms now ravage the land. Most of the people from there migrated to islands of Ionia, but some split apart from the main group. Their culture worshiped the Moon and had one member per generation gifted by Moon's magical powers. They called themselves Lunari.
They arrived to settle on Mount Targon - making the Rakkor uneasy.
Many decades passed, but the Rakkor in their paranoia kept praying to the Sun for help. The star, possessing rudimentary sentience thanks to its enormous mass and magic, took pity on them and granted the Rakkor their first powerful magic user, the Chosen of the Sun. What followed was a sudden and brutal attack on the Lunari...

About

Targon lore

Targon comic is a story based on the original lore of champions of Targon and uses heavily modified stories of some newer Targonian champions. It follows the life of Leona, the hardships of living on an isolated mountain and the conflict between solari (a religious order of the Rakkor) and Lunari, a thought-extinct religious group of foreigners who settled on Targon long ago. It is based on the original lore and uses heavily modified stories of some newer Targonian champions. Main characters are Leona, Pantheon, Diana, Alune and Aphelios. It updates randomly but usually a couple of times a month, don’t worry if it appears stagnant because the comic will not be abandoned and I am in fact working on it behind the scenes. It is drawn in a mixed media, some aspects are traditionally done, some digitally. Characters

Targon lore

In original release lore, the stories of these characters were similar but with some crucial differences. While all of them were born on Mount Targon, their origins and motivations were different:
Leona
Leona was not born among solari, but instead among the Rakkor, just like her childhood friend Pantheon; these warrior-people live on a slightly lower altitude than their religious order of solari. In her youth, Leona loved standing in the way of bullies and helping other children. She was growing up to be adamantly opposed to cruelty and violence. Even though she was an excellent fighter, Leona did not possess the zeal for brutality like her peers did.
She refused to kill her opponent Molik in an obligatory rite of passage called Kor, a ceremonial culling of teens at the age of 16 through one-on-one combat. This was considered Treason against the Rakkor tribe even though she had defeated Molik. Leona brought shame on her family and was set to be executed in Molik's stead. However, she was saved by the Sun intervening on her behalf by knocking out her would-be Rakkor executioners with its brilliant light in the nick of time. Leona was then taken in by solari to be taught to use her newfound sun powers, as she was a manifestation of their highest religious symbol, Chosen of the Sun. The Rakkor previously had only one...
Leona was not called the Aspect of the Sun as there were no alien aspects on Targon in original release lore. She had no confirmed siblings nor was she an ardent believer in solari faith. She was only taught combat and now carries immense guilt over all the children who died and who continue to die during the Rite of Kor.
Leona is characterized as an iconoclast and a troublemaker, a problem for her parents in her childhood as she always stood up for what she thought was right and refused to follow tradition, especially when it demanded violence against the innocent. Which makes the lack of her intervention on Diana's behalf - puzzling...
Diana
Unlike Leona, Diana was born among the solari and taught the ways of their religion from an early age. As solari are a privileged layer of Rakkor society, their children are not forced into undergoing the Rite of Kor.
Diana always felt that she did not belong. Her way of thinking was different and her very existence seemed fundamentally incompatible with solari. She found solace in nighttime and the Moon's gentle light. Growing up, she learned to mostly hide this but her need for acceptance and community always got her to attempt to connect and share her appreciation for lunar light with others. Unfortunately, she only found disapproval and rejection each time - the solari considered this to be heresy. This cycle of being quiet for a long time then bringing up her interests would repeat each time Diana believed she had found stronger evidence that the Moon deserved to be loved too. It culminated when she discovered traces that proved there once was a culture that worshiped the Moon - Lunari.
Diana rushed to show this to others, thinking that undeniable evidence would certainly finally get them to change their minds. Instead, the solari mercilessly ordered Diana's execution. Feeling deeply betrayed and furious at the revelation that the solari also most likely were the ones who exterminated the Lunari, Diana finally understood that there was no helping her people. She pleaded to the Moon. The celestial body granted her the power to free herself of her chains and Diana burst in a storm of vengeance. She used her newfound power to slaughter all those present for her execution. She became the dark spirit of the Moon's scorn and vowed to one day kill Leona, solari's symbol, and do to solari what they had done to Lunari - wipe them out of existence.
Diana never climbed the peak of Mount Targon originally, as there were no alien Aspects in the old release lore. She wasn't granted visions nor was she possessed by a will other than her own while enacting her vengeance. Rather than being a confused hero like in the new lore, she was a tragic anti-hero, determined to see her plan through, sinking deeper into her zealotry which was inverse of what she had been originally taught.
